- Alcatel and Evolving Systems Announce Availability of Complete Solutionfor
North American Local and Wireless Number Portability
Dallas, Texas and Englewood, Colorado - Alcatel (NYSE: ALA) and Evolving Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-EVOL) today announced that they have signed a value added reseller agreement to offer North American service providers a complete solution to support local and wireless number portability. Following extensive interoperability testing, the agreement brings together the Alcatel 5070 Signaling Server Global (Alcatel 5070 SSG) and Evolving Systems' NumberManager® Local Service Management System (LSMS) - two of the premier offerings in the number portability and advanced signaling solutions market today. Available today to operators in North America, the combined solution enables service providers to immediately take advantage of a single, turnkey solution to meet local and wireless number portability requirements.
The solution delivers a fully integrated and tested product for the most demanding local and wireless number portability needs. Service providers can now choose a best-of-breed solution for the local number portability (LNP) database and LSMS, without compromising on performance or features. In addition, since the solution uses open standards for the interface, the service provider is not locked into a proprietary solution. Service providers can also choose to use Alcatel as a single point of contact for sales and support simplifying their operations efforts.
"Margin pressures have forced service providers to become more efficient businesses," said Sanjay Mewada, vice president with the Yankee Group. "Service providers are using a number of methods to achieve improved operational efficiency, with one method being the reduction of vendors with whom they do business. This trend increases the importance of pre-integrated offerings between complementary products and companies. This agreement between Alcatel and Evolving is further evidence of this trend."
Until now, service providers were faced with limited choices to ensure local number portability (LNP). They could either buy an LNP element from one vendor and the LSMS from another vendor or settle for a proprietary, limited solution. With the availability of a single solution from Alcatel and Evolving Systems, carriers can now take advantage of a best-of-breed, standards-based solution that combines the Alcatel 5070 SSG for LNP capabilities and the Evolving Systems NumberManager LSMS to address all network needs from a single supplier.
"We expect this proven and integrated solution will have very broad market appeal for North American wireline, wireless and VoIP service providers," said Stephen Gartside, president and chief executive officer of Evolving Systems. "By working together, Alcatel and Evolving Systems offer carriers a single source solution that not only addresses their network needs but streamlines and simplifies the purchasing process."
"Customers are looking for a prime vendor to bring turnkey solutions for number portability," said Vickie Yohe, senior vice president of Alcatel's Multimedia Service Delivery activities in North America. "This development allows us to leverage Alcatel's and Evolving Systems' joint expertise to offer the market a truly enhanced customer experience."
