01 Oct 2004 - Evolving Systems Signs Contract for VoIP Number Porting Solution with Leading U.S. Carrier

ENGLEWOOD, Colorado - Evolving Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-EVOL), a leading provider of innovative software solutions and services to the wireline, wireless and IP carrier market, today announced an agreement with a major U.S. telecommunications carrier to extend Evolving Systems' number portability solution for its voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services. The carrier will leverage Evolving Systems' OrderPath® solution and deploy a multi-provider management feature to manage porting for multiple affiliates from a single system.

The deployment, which includes professional services support, will create a cost-effective solution for this VoIP initiative. The solution will be used to handle all VoIP and traditional phone number porting needs for the carrier's Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) and Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) operations.

"Customers expect a consistent level of telephony service, regardless of the technology used to provide the service," stated Jason Briggs, program manager with the Yankee Group. "Accordingly, challenges such as conversation quality and the ability to retain an existing phone number will be important competitive differentiators for communications service providers (CSPs) as they transition customers to VoIP services. These challenges will lead to opportunity for those companies that can help CSPs make the transition to VoIP as seamless as possible, thus meeting their customers' expectations for service quality."

The selection was based on Evolving Systems' extensive number porting and management credentials and the ability of the company's products to enable VoIP services from a common number porting platform. The proven scalability and performance of Evolving Systems' OrderPath solution allows the customer to automate the porting of VoIP telephone numbers. Evolving Systems will work closely with the customer to implement and deploy the system with expectations that the system will be operational in early 2005. The Company anticipates the majority of the revenue for this transaction will be recognized in the fourth quarter of 2004.

"This order marks another VoIP victory for Evolving Systems, confirming the value of our solutions for enabling VoIP services," stated Stephen Gartside, president and chief executive officer of Evolving Systems. "This contract, coupled with the previously announced VoIP win with another tier-one operator, positions Evolving Systems as a leader and innovator in providing VoIP numbering solutions in the U.S."

The offering integrates Evolving Systems' OrderPath Service Order Administration (SOA) software, which facilitates the transport, conflict resolution, and tracking of ported numbers between service providers and the Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC), with the optional multi-provider management feature. The solution provides a single, integrated number portability system which supports traditional as well as emerging VoIP services for carriers that operate in North America.

Key to Profitability

An effective activation system is critical to an operator's profitability. The activation system is involved in providing every service to every subscriber - voice, data, content, information or messaging. The volume of activation transactions handled by operators is huge - and still growing. The activation system needs to support many new network technologies and increasingly complex activation processes as more data and content services are introduced.
