Existing methods of provisioning SIM cards for mobile subscribers are either inflexible or expensive. Pre-provisioning SIM cards before they are delivered to retailers involves making many decisions - including the type of SIM card, mobile phone number, subscriber type and supported services - before the SIM card is shipped, sold and used. Provisioning SIM cards at the point of sale is more flexible but requires the carrier to either provide sophisticated retail point-of-sale systems or ask the subscriber to access a web-based portal to complete the registration and service configuration process.
Dynamic SIM Allocation™
Evolving Systems' Dynamic SIM Allocation™ solution (U.S. patent pending) gives carriers all the benefits of point-of-sale provisioning without the infrastructure investment. SIM cards are activated when the customer's mobile phone is first switched on and used; decisions such as allocation of a phone number and selection of supported services are only made at this point of first use, and any required information is collected from the customer via their mobile device.
Mobile phone numbers may be allocated automatically, with the option of enabling customers to choose their number - either from a standard list or by adding a vanity 'golden' number to their account. It's even possible to allocate regional numbers based on the customer's needs and location.
The Dynamic SIM Allocation solution also enables carriers to carry out other innovative offerings, such as self-service number porting and automated procedures for SIM card replacement.
